Philippians 2:12-16 (NKJV) Light Bearers
12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.
14 Do all things without complaining and disputing, 15 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16 holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain
Through all of the disruptions and disillusionments of living, there are many delights. In all of it, we are called to shine and we are called to hold fast the word of life. There are words of life no matter how dark the day. Those words can dispell the dampening of death and destruction and move us to a higher plane.
These verses were shared with me from a legislator in Montana a few days ago as we exchanged prayer and ideas. Since then I have thought of them daily.
In a restaurant, I recognized a young woman, whom I had not seen in person for a while. Only facebook has kept me up to date with her. I literally lept up from the conversation I was having with three men, ran across the crowded room, and hugged her. It surprised me and her and so many others. She has a special place in my heart. Over the years we have shared joys and tears and prayers. She introduced me to her husband and we rejoiced at the coming birth of their new child. Light should shine whereever you are.
At a mechanic’s shop, a young man opened his life and began talking about disturbing events. I had just met him, but he had something he needed to talk about. For a year, he had been experiencing events. He had not talked to anyone about them. With some fatherly and pastoral advice, we walked through some situations and had prayer. Light should shine whereever you are.
In a coffee shop a friend and I talked through struggles as dads of twentysomethings and teenagers. It was good. We build each other that way.
Last week was full of personal prayers for individuals in Mexico outdoors under a tent, in a hospital, and at the church. There is preaching of the words of life , and then I love to give the words of life in prayer that touches hearts one at a time. I prayed for hundreds of people, one at a time.
Over the internet some 1000 people have read through bible studies with words of life in the last two weeks on slideshare. They visit from the privacy of home and work and other places. And then some other thousands receive like you are receiving now.
My email inbasket at times is full of pains and joys of the lives of others. I wish I could listen more deeply to all of them and offer increased words of life. The need in our world is great for good news of words of life.
“We ought always to preach the gospel and sometimes use words.” Francis of Assisi
Someone asked me where my church building is located. In the coffee shops, restaurants, meeting rooms, living rooms, phones, laptops, ipads, smart phones, mechanic shops, tents, neighborhoods, patios, and couches where you live is where my church exists.
See you there with words of life.
